Pool Startup After Resurfacing

The startup process after a new concrete surface is one of the most critical phases for long-term results. Understanding why it matters helps you protect your investment.

What's included in the warranty?

Installation warranty covers workmanship only — application quality and adhesion issues.

Material warranty is provided by the manufacturer and is subject to their terms and conditions — not ours.

Fiberglass: 10-year manufacturer material warranty + 1-year workmanship warranty.

Concrete: 1-year workmanship warranty + manufacturer material warranty (terms vary by product).

IMPORTANT: Warranty validity and surface lifespan depend on maintaining proper water chemistry (pH, alkalinity, chlorine levels). Poor water chemistry can void warranty and significantly shorten surface life.

Why is water chemistry so important for your new surface?

The life of your new plaster or finish depends HEAVILY on proper water chemistry maintenance. Poor water balance is the #1 cause of premature surface failure after resurfacing. Improper pH levels, high chlorine concentrations, low alkalinity, or chemical imbalances can cause the surface to deteriorate — sometimes within months instead of years. We provide detailed water chemistry guidelines after completion, but consistent maintenance is essential to protect your investment and maintain warranty coverage.

What happens during the startup period?

Your new surface goes through a curing and startup process immediately after the pool is filled. This period is especially critical for plaster and quartz finishes. Here are the general areas covered — your technician will walk you through the specific steps for your project:

🖌️
Daily brushing
Brushing the surface helps remove plaster dust and ensures an even cure — typically twice daily for the first week.
🔄
Continuous circulation
Running the filtration system non-stop during the initial days helps flush particles and stabilize water balance.
⚗️
Water chemistry monitoring
Chemistry must be tested frequently and adjusted carefully. Proper pH, alkalinity, and calcium hardness are all critical in the early stage.
⏱️
Chemical restrictions
Certain chemicals and equipment (such as automatic cleaners and salt systems) are typically restricted during the curing window.

Please note: The information above is general guidance only and is not a substitute for the written startup instructions provided by your Cool Pool of Florida technician at project completion. Water chemistry requirements vary based on your specific finish, local water source, and environmental conditions. Always consult a licensed pool professional for specific chemical dosing and testing. Cool Pool of Florida is not responsible for surface or warranty issues resulting from improper water chemistry maintenance after project handover.
