Resurfacing, refinishing or recoating: what your pool needs

Homeowners use all three words for the same goal: a new, smooth, watertight surface on an existing pool. The right method depends on what the pool is made of.

  • Fiberglass pools: we recoat the shell with a marine-grade gelcoat system or ecoFINISH, after repairing cracks, blisters and chalking. Fiberglass pool resurfacing.
  • Concrete and plaster pools: we drain, prepare the old surface and apply a new finish. Concrete pool resurfacing.
  • Full renovation: resurfacing plus equipment, tile or deck work. Pool remodeling.

How pool resurfacing works

  1. Inspection and written proposal. We check the shell, tile, coping and any leaks, then define the scope and the finish in writing.
  2. Drain and prepare. The pool is drained and the old surface prepared. On fiberglass, cracks, blisters and chalking are repaired first.
  3. Apply the new finish. Gelcoat or ecoFINISH on fiberglass; plaster, quartz or pebble on concrete; or a reinforced PVC membrane.
  4. Refill and start up. Most residential pools are done in 5-7 days. New plaster needs brushing twice a day for the first week, continuous filtration for 72 hours and no chlorine for the first 48 hours.
